Apartment Fire at 2415 North Kennicott Drive in Arlington Heights

On Wednesday, November 4, 2020, around 11:00 p.m., police and firefighter/paramedics from Arlington Heights responded to a report of an apartment fire at 2415 North Kennicott Drive in Arlington Heights. The firefighters arrived at the scene and saw smoke showing from a 2-story apartment building. By 11:07 p.m., the firefighters upgraded the fire to a working fire response.

The residents evacuated the building on their own. At the apartment fire scene, there were no initial injuries reported. A mutual aid response was assigned to firefighters from Buffalo Grove, Palatine, and Prospect Heights.  By 11:26 p.m., a primary season on the first floor was done. A primary search on the second-floor fire unit and hallway was also clear by 11:26 p.m.

The firefighters were pulling the ceiling on the second floor. They checked for an extension by 11:27 p.m. To get to the attic from the second-floor interior, firefighters used an attic ladder. By 11:30 p.m., firefighters also discovered a fire in a wall with a fire extension into the attic. At around 11:32 p.m., firefighters had started cutting a hole in the roof.

Heat and smoke were vented out of the roof by the firefighters. They reported no visible fire in the holes. The fire had not extended to other unit. At 11:42 p.m., the fire was stopped. Units below suffered water damage and a burst building water line inside the affected unit. The firefighters searched for fire extension and any unsafe conditions.

The power to the apartment building was disconnected by ComEd. They also responded to the scene to assure safe conditions. Gas was also shut off as Nicor arrived at the scene. This is an early reported published article. The authorities are yet to confirm or release any summary.
