Aurora Downtown to turn downtown into Sugar Skull City to honor Day of the Dead

Aurora Downtown is presenting the Sugar Skull City event from October 15 to November 15. The event will coincide with the Mexican cultural tradition, Day of the Dead. According to the event organizers, Sugar Skull City will honor the Day of the Dead tradition. Moreover, it will coincide with the First Fridays events on November 6.

The businesses located in downtown will be decorated their storefronts with festive displays for the holiday to celebrate the event. Pierre Lucero, Jose Sanchez, and Joseph Gagnepain, the local artists, painted storefronts along Broadway and Stolp Avenue. At least two dozen artists worked on creating sugar skull artwork. Their work will be displayed in downtown windows.

The social media pages of Aurora Downtown will host photo contests. The customers will get a chance to participate in the contests and vote on the artwork. The items related to the Day of the Dead event will be sold by several merchants. The Cotton Seed Creative Exchange and Warehouse 55 will offer artisan items for sale. Blissful Blooms will offer flower bouquet while Wyckwood House will offer chocolate bars for sale.

The event will present virtual content as well including an Aztec dance ceremony and a sugar skull making tutorial. People will be able to watch the content on YouTube and Facebook pages of Aurora Downtown. Patrons will also get a chance to participate in a scavenger hunt.

The scavenger hunt will challenge patrons to find two yellow sugar skull screens located in downtown windows, fill up at authentic Mexican bakeries and restaurants, and download coloring pages from the website. The downtown residents will enjoy a lot through participating in Sugar Skull City from October 15 to November 15.
