City of Champions Cup Managers will be Former Big Leaguers

The four-team Managers for the City of Champions Cup have been locked in. New to the City of Champions Cup this summer is Slammers Manager and previous Slammers player, Billy Petrick. Petrick is a former Chicago Cub and native of Morris, Illinois. He will be joining the City of Champions Cup as the Joliet Slammers Manager.

In 2002, the Cubs picked Petrick in the third round. He made his MLB debut with the team in 2007. Petrick previously pitched for the Joliet JackHammers. He was the opening night in the Joliet Slammers inaugural season. He was also a Frontier League Champion with that Slammers team. 2-time World Series Champion, Scott Spiezio will be joining the City of Champions Cup as a team manager.

Spiezio, a native of Morris, Illinois played baseball at Morris High School before attending the University of Illinois where he made the All-Big 10 Team in 1992 and 1993. In 1993, Oakland Athletics drafted him. He made his MLB debut in 1996. He was best known as a utility player, playing both infield and outfield positions. He won the World Series with Anaheim Angels and St. Louis Cardinals.

Former MLB catcher for the Cincinnati Reds, Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox, Atlanta Braves, and Chicago White Sox Corky Miller will be the third team manager in the City of Champions Cup. In 1998, Miller signed with the Cincinnati Reds as an undrafted free agent. He made his MLB debut in 2001 with them. Reds AAA team Louisville Bats retired his No. 8 jersey for setting a franchise record for games played.

Former MLB outfielder with the Toronto Blue Jays, Cleveland Indians, Chicago Cubs, San Francisco Giants, Seattle Mariners, New York Yankees and Anaheim Angels Glenallen Hill will be the third manager in the City of Champions Cup. Hill won a World Series in 2002 with the Yankees. Hill’s son, Glenallen Hill Jr., an Arizona Diamondbacks prospect, will also play in the City of Champions Cup.
