The Chicago’s Department of Planning and Development (DPD) issued a request for proposals (RFP) for the former 3rd Ward streets and Sanitation office at 5021 S. Wabash Ave. in the Grand Boulevard community.
Respondents to the RFP should seek to rehabilitate the existing structure. The prairie-style building has an orange rating on the Chicago Historical Resources Survey and could be eligible for a landmark designation. The city’s development assistance could include Tax Increment Financing support, Neighborhood Opportunity Fund grants, purchase-price write-downs, and other resources.
An RFP pre-submission meeting is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 14. The deadline for responses is 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 30.
A winning project team is expected to be announced by the DPD later this year. A formal review and approval process will follow, including potential hearings with the Chicago Plan Commission, the Community Development Commission and the City Council.
