Chicago Fire FC earned a narrow 1-0 win over the New York Red Bulls on Saturday night at Soldier Field, thanks to a first-half penalty from forward Hugo Cuypers and another stellar defensive display by goalkeeper Chris Brady.
The home side applied pressure early, registering eight shots before halftime. Cuypers capitalized on that momentum in the 44th minute, drawing a handball in the Red Bulls’ box and calmly converting the ensuing penalty. The goal marked Cuypers’ 14th of the season and gave the Fire a 1-0 advantage heading into the break.
In the second half, New York pressed for an equalizer but found no way past Brady, who made three crucial saves to preserve the lead. Brady’s effort resulted in his second consecutive shutout and his third clean sheet of the season.
Cuypers’ game-winner was his fifth of the season, tying him for the third-most in a single season in club history. His 14 total goals also place him fifth all-time for goals scored in a season by a Fire player.
The win marked Chicago’s 10th of the 2025 season, with 10 games left to play. It’s the first time since 2023 that the Fire have reached the 10-win mark and just the third time since 2017, the year they secured 16 victories en route to a playoff berth.
Chris Brady, continuing to impress in net, secured his seventh win of the campaign. The young keeper is emerging as a key contributor in Chicago’s postseason hopes.
Chicago will return to action on August 9, when they host Los Angeles FC at SeatGeek Stadium. The match will be broadcast worldwide on MLS Season Pass via Apple TV and locally on wlsam.com and Que Buena Fire on the Uforia App.
