Donald Trump proposes the cut of funds for science research at NSF

Donald Trump has given the key proposals in his request to Congress for the budget 2020. The cut of funds at NSF (National Science Foundation) would affect the current researches in Antarctica. The fund cut would also affect the fields of mathematical sciences, geosciences, and physical sciences. Trump released a detailed request for the budget 2020 on 18th of March.

Trump made a request in which he proposed the cut of funds for the scientific researches at NSF. The fiscal year 2020 is going to be started from 1st of October, 2019. The previous budget for the NSF is $8.1 billion and the current proposal says to cut down the fund up to 12%. Some of other agencies would also face fund cut including National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). There is nothing sure about the reaction of the lawmakers of Congress on this proposal given by Trump.

The lawmakers did not pay attention to the Trump’s science fund cut in the fiscal years 2017 and 2018 when Republicans took control of the Senate. Michel Lubell, A physicist at Science College of New York, said that Trump’s administration wants to spend more on the enhancement of the military power that is why it is proposing to cut the funds for the non-military programs and sciences fields. He added, “The lawmakers are not giving much interest on such proposals by the Trump”.

There is a clarity in the Trump’s request to congress about the budget 2020 that the Trump administration is keener towards the military empowerment. The approval is dependent on the lawmakers of the Republicans and Democrats sitting in the Senate. They have not shown much interest in such proposals in the past Republican years. Trump has already made clear in his speeches that the sciences research funds are excessive and there is a need to cut these funds for the betterment of the United States economy. The question is whether the lawmakers would support him or not.
