Trent Keegan, a 27 year-old male resident of Chicago and formerly a resident of Crystal Lake, was arrested Tuesday, June 1, 2021 suspected of committing an armed robbery at the Woodstock Super 8 Motel near US 14 and Route 47 that occurred in May 2020.
The Woodstock Police Department was dispatched at 10:30 p.m. May 17, 2020, to the Super 8 on 1220 Davis Road, to a report of an armed robbery that had just occurred. The victim, who was working at the hotel front desk, said a male subject approached him and pulled on the victim’s wrist while demanding money from the cash register, and while displaying a handgun. The armed robbery was committed while Keegan wore a bandana, mask and safety glasses. Keegan’s handgun was stuck in his front pocket when he attempted to draw the weapon. There were no reported injuries to the victim or anyone else in the hotel, according to the Woodstock Police Department.
Last year, witness statements and multiple pieces of evidence were collected at the motel and near the scene. The Boone County Sheriff’s Department K9 Unit was also assigned to track the suspect. A search warrant was executed on a Woodstock residence that produced additional evidence. A second search warrant that was executed on a residence in Lake in the Hills also produced additional evidence in the case.
An investigation involving several months led to the identification of suspect Trent J. Keegan, 27, of the block of 4000 North Hazel Street in the Buena Park, Uptown neighborhood of Chicago, as a suspect in the case. Keegan has recently worked in the construction industry.
With the assistance of the Chicago Police Department’s Fugitive Apprehension Team, Keegan was taken into custody without incident on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 in Chicago. Keegan was initially held at Cook County Jail.
No additional suspects are currently under investigation for this case, according to the Woodstock Police Department.

With the assistance of the Chicago Police Department’s Fugitive Apprehension Team, Keegan was taken into custody without incident on Tuesday, June 1. Keegan is in custody at Cook County Jail, and Friday morning was awaiting extradition to McHenry County. Keegan was confined at McHenry County Jail at 3:02 p.m. on Friday, June 4, 2021. Keegan’s next court date is Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 8:00 a.m.
While residing in Crystal Lake, Trent Keegan was accused of displaying a knife in an armed robbery at the front desk at a Super 8 hotel in Crystal Lake at 4:50 p.m. April 11, 2015. Keegan was apprehended the next day, and found guilty in McHenry County Court. Keegan served 180 days, and also underwent drug and alcohol treatment with three years probation.
