Laila reunites with owner after being rescued from Lake Michigan

A dog, named Laila, has been reunited with its owner. Laila was rescued from Lake Michigan and transported to an area vet. Marine Unit of the Chicago police and Chicago Fire department responded to a call in which they were told about a dog in the water.

Laila remained in the water for half an hour and still survived to stay on the surface of the water. Jennifer Terzich, a police officer, said, “I was surprised because the dog had been in the water for at least half an hour from what we can estimate.” The rescue crew arrived at the scene and pulled off the dog from the water. Terzich said, “I am a god lover and I can do anything for a dog.” She wanted to make sure that the dog was alive.

The rescue crew brought the dog to the clinic of Dr. Eileen Murphy on Monday morning. Dr. Murphy runs a clinic named as West Wrigley Animal Hospital. The officers took the dog to the clinic and Murphy located the owner by scanning the microchip. Murphy said, “The owner lost the dog on Saturday and thought for sure he was not gonna get her back.”

Dr. Murphy provided the treatment to the dog as it drank some water. The dog was scared due to the life-threatening incident happened with it. Charles Bogenberger, the owner of Laila, said, “This girl is a fighter, she can survive.” Bogenberger was not sure whether he will see his dog alive again. He lost Laila when he was at the Montrose Dog Beach. Laila ran out of a gate which left open at the beach.

Bogenberger said, “I spent my entire weekend in search of my beloved pet in several parks.” He took the help of several friends in searching for the dog. Laila has been reunited with Charles on Monday afternoon. Laila was afraid of strangers but the way she behaved with the rescue members was quite impressive, according to her owner. Bogenberger was impressed with the efforts of the rescue crew and he appreciated them.
