Phillies to Meet With Free Agent Shortstop Bo Bichette

The Philadelphia Phillies have scheduled a meeting with free agent shortstop Bo Bichette, according to a report by The Athletic. The discussion is expected to take place via video conference in the coming days.

Bichette, a two-time All-Star with the Toronto Blue Jays, hit .311 with 18 home runs and 94 RBIs in 139 games last season as Toronto reached the World Series. The 27-year-old returned from a knee injury for the postseason and batted .348 in the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

His three-run homer in Game 7 off Shohei Ohtani briefly gave Toronto a 3–1 lead, though the Dodgers ultimately won 5–4 in 11 innings.

Selected by Toronto in the second round of the 2016 draft, Bichette owns a career .294 batting average with 111 home runs and 437 RBIs across 748 games since debuting in 2019. He has played exclusively at shortstop during the regular season, though he started four games at second base in the World Series.

With Trea Turner entrenched at shortstop, Philadelphia could explore Bichette at third base, potentially signaling a move away from Alec Bohm.

Bichette is expected to draw strong interest across the league, with the Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox, and Cubs also reportedly monitoring the market.
