A medical helicopter crashed on the South Side of Chicago on Sunday. The pilot made a correct decision and landed in a grassy area instead of a highway nearby.
There were four people onboard, the pilot, two paramedics, and a patient. All of them survived in the crash and were taken to the hospital to receive the necessary treatment. The condition of the crew was stable, the patient was critical because of his diagnosis.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the pilot operated in the compliance with the instructions. He issued a “mayday” and was in time to find a grassy landing area. There were a highway and a railway on his way. Landing on that points could cause a lot of deaths.
The helicopter was smoking, and it was a complicated task to land the machine in such condition. The pilot was concentrated and found the best solution. The final destination of the helicopter has been not clarified till now, the departure point was Gary Airport.
The Federal Aviation Administration should find out the reason of the accident, the investigation will take up to one month.
