Second snow emergency of winter issued by City of Freeport

The City of Freeport has issued the second snow emergency of the winter season this year. An impending winter storm is heading toward the city. According to the weather officials, the snowstorm is expected to bring accumulating snow. A wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain are also expected from Friday to Sunday in Freeport.

According to the weather officials, 3 to 5 inches of snow is expected to be accumulated during these days. The City of Freeport has issued the snow emergency that will come into effect at 12:00 pm on Friday and it will stay until 6:00 am on Sunday. The City also issued the parking regulations for winter in the form of the City ordinance “486.03, Parking Prohibited Under Certain Conditions”.

The residents of the Central Business district are ordered to remove their cars from the street during the period of 72 hours of the snow event. According to the parking regulations, the residents are prohibited to stand or park a vehicle on the even-numbered side of the street on an odd-numbered day of the month.

The ordinance said that the parking of vehicles on the odd-numbered side of the street is prohibited on an even-numbered day of the month. If the declaration is made by the City, the odd and even numbers will be considered from 8:00 am. The City said that the vehicles would be towed at the expense of owners if they would be found at the wrong parking spots.

The streets that have parking on a single side do not lie under these parking regulations. The residents are urged to remove the snow from around fire hydrants located near their houses. According to the ordinance, the residents are prohibited from throwing off the snow from their properties onto the City streets and sidewalks. The residents are also advised to clear the sidewalks abutting their properties of snow within the 12 hours of the end of the storm.
