The Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) at 6:37 p.m. on July 28 received a 911 call from a resident reporting a fire involving a single-family home. To the reported structure fire, a general alarm was dispatched. Three engines, two ladder trucks, one squad, two ambulances, and two shift commanders consisted the general alarm assignment.
Engine 5 arrived on the scene within five minutes of the initial 911 call. They observed smoke coming from the roofline and established command. Engine 5 had verified that everyone was out of the house. They deployed a hand-line to extinguish the fire in the kitchen. Command advised that the main body of the fire was extinguished just within 15 minutes of the initial 911 call.
On the interior of the house, salvage and overall was performed. A search was also conducted, along along with smoke removal and extinguishment of any hidden fire. Naperville Police Department; the Naperville Transportation, Engineering and Development Department (TED); Nicor; the Naperville Electric Department and the American Red Cross assisted the Naperville Fire Department on the scene.
The Bolingbrook FD, Plainfield FPD, Westmont FD, Downers Grove FD, and Lockport FPD all provided coverage for Naperville fire stations during this incident. No firefighter or civilian sustained any injuries. Unattended cooking was determined to be the cause of the fire. The house is deemed inhabitable at present by the inspectors.
