Trout homer lifts Angels past White Sox

Mike Trout continued to climb the all-time home run list, powering the Los Angeles Angels to a 4-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night in Anaheim.

Trout finished with a home run, a single, and two walks while scoring twice, marking his 415th career homer. The blast not only helped secure the win but also moved him past Darrell Evans into 55th place on Major League Baseball’s all-time list.

The Angels, who had struggled in recent games, snapped a two-game losing streak and picked up just their second win in the last 11 contests. Zach Neto contributed two hits, including a home run, while Jorge Soler also went deep.

Chicago struck first, building a 2-0 lead in the opening inning. Chase Meidroth led off with a single before Miguel Vargas and Colson Montgomery drew consecutive walks. Randal Grichuk followed with an RBI single, and Edgar Quero added a sacrifice fly to extend the early advantage.

Los Angeles responded immediately. In the bottom of the first, Trout delivered a 367-foot home run to left field, followed by a 410-foot blast from Soler to tie the game at 2-2.

Neto broke the tie in the fifth inning with a 410-foot home run, ending a lengthy hitless stretch and giving the Angels a 3-2 lead. Moments later, Trout drew a walk and came around to score what proved to be the game-winning run on a double by Nolan Schanuel.

The White Sox pulled within one run in the seventh inning when Meidroth hit his second home run of the game, a 372-foot drive just inside the left-field foul pole.

Chicago’s offense had been strong in the series opener, collecting 16 hits in a 6-0 win on Monday, but could not complete the comeback on Tuesday. Meidroth led the team with two hits and two runs, while Andrew Benintendi also added two hits.

On the mound, Erick Fedde (0-4) took the loss after allowing four runs on six hits over 4 2/3 innings.

The Angels’ bullpen held firm late. Jose Fermin worked a scoreless inning of relief, and Ryan Zeferjahn escaped a bases-loaded situation in the ninth inning to record his first save of the season.

With the win, Los Angeles gained momentum in the series, while the White Sox dropped their first loss to the Angels in five meetings this season.
