White Sox, Rangers Battle for Playoff Position

The Chicago White Sox and Texas Rangers head into Wednesday’s series finale at Rate Field with both clubs fighting for postseason position.

Chicago responded to an 11-2 loss Monday by defeating Texas 11-7 on Tuesday. The White Sox scored six runs in the first inning, while Tristan Peters went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and homered for the fourth consecutive game.

“You know, I think it’s confidence,” Peters said. “All these fans coming out … just gives us confidence, and it’s awesome to play in front of you all.”

Chase Meidroth also collected three hits, while Sam Antonacci, Miguel Vargas and Brenton Doyle added two apiece. Texas stayed in the game behind home runs from Jake Burger, Danny Jansen and Justin Foscue. Burger’s homer was his team-leading 23rd.

The Rangers slipped a half-game behind Houston in the AL West, while Chicago holds a 2 1/2-game advantage over Cleveland atop the AL Central.

Wednesday’s pitching matchup features Texas left-hander MacKenzie Gore (7-9, 4.26 ERA) against Chicago right-hander Sean Burke (7-6, 3.27). Gore owns a 1.57 ERA across four August starts, while Burke is seeking his first win since July 19.
