Chicago Fire’s Zinckernagel Secures Fifth MLS Team of the Matchday Selection
Chicago Fire FC winger Philip Zinckernagel has been recognized for his outstanding performance in the 2-2 draw against Los Angeles Football Club at SeatGeek Stadium, earning a spot on the MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 28.
The Danish international contributed two assists, setting up both of Chicago’s goals. In the 11th minute, his precise cross reached defender Carlos Terán, who headed the ball into the net for an early lead. Later in the second half, Zinckernagel linked up with midfielder Brian Gutiérrez before delivering a pass to winger Jonathan Bamba, who scored from a tight angle to give the Fire their second lead of the match.
This marks Zinckernagel’s fifth inclusion in the MLS Team of the Matchday this season—two times as part of the Starting XI (Matchdays 21 and 7) and twice as a bench selection (Matchdays 17 and 25). His five appearances are the most by any Chicago Fire player in a single season since Nemanja Nikolic’s seven selections in 2017. In his previous start, Zinckernagel tallied one goal and one assist in a 3-2 win over Charlotte FC on June 30.
The Matchday 28 Team of the Matchday also featured Luis Muriel, Danny Musovski, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Carles Gil, Jack McGlynn, Anders Dreyer, Ryan Hollingshead, Lalas Abubakar, Jaziel Orozco, goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina, and coach Oscar Pareja.
Chicago Fire will next face St. Louis CITY SC at SeatGeek Stadium on Saturday, August 16, at 7:30 p.m. CT. Fans can watch the match globally on MLS Season Pass via Apple TV or listen locally through WLS 890 AM and Que Buena Fire on the Uforia App. A replay will air on Marquee Sports Network on Tuesday, August 19, at 4 p.m. CT.
