3D Printed Guns Were Permitted by American Law

Americans can print 3D guns. The creator Cody Wilson offers to download blueprints of handguns to all interested in.

Cody Wilson got the idea to create a 3D-printed gun 5 years ago. He created the gun blueprints and started to look for an opportunity to sell them legally. The American government approved the relevant legislation that legitimized downloadable guns.

The author of the 3D concept will receive $40,000 funding from the State Department to develop his project. There are two models of the blueprints on Wilson`s website – Baretta M9 handgun and an AR-15 lower receiver. The public reaction was bipolar: gun activists appreciated the idea but gun control authorities are afraid of easily available weapons. The cost price of the printed gun is near $25, but the 3D printers are not affordable for most of citizens till now (the price may reach $600,000).

The New-York Senator Chuck Schumer expressed concerns that anyone would be able to have a weapon that could destroy planes, buildings, schools etc. and there would be no possibility to control the usage of such weapons.

Gun terrorism is a potential problem for Chicago if the government not prohibit the use of printed guns.
