Jack Elliott Named to MLS Team of the Matchday Again

Elliott Earns Second Straight MLS Team of the Matchday Honor

For the second consecutive week, Chicago Fire FC captain Jack Elliott has earned a spot on Major League Soccer’s Team of the Matchday. The veteran center back was recognized for his standout performance in Matchday 27, helping lead the Fire to a 1-0 shutout victory over the New York Red Bulls.

Elliott played the entire match, contributing significantly to the team’s second straight clean sheet. He helped contain the Red Bulls to only three shots on target and completed a team-high 68 passes.

“CHICAGO FIRE FC defender and captain Jack Elliott was named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 27 following his performance in Saturday’s 1-0 clean sheet victory against the New York Red Bulls,” the club stated.

This marks Elliott’s second consecutive appearance on the league’s weekly best XI, following his selection in Matchday 26 after scoring in a shutout win against CF Montréal.

“Elliott earned his second Team of the Matchday accolade in a row after leading the Fire to a second consecutive shutout victory against an Eastern Conference rival. The veteran center back played the full 90 minutes, helping limit the Red Bulls to just three shots on goal and pacing the Fire with 68 completed passes,” the club noted.

The back-to-back recognition makes Elliott the first Fire player to achieve this since Hugo Cuypers did so in Matchdays 2 and 3 earlier this season. He is also the first Fire player since midfielder Álvaro Medrán in 2021 to be named as a starter in consecutive Team of the Matchday selections.

“The league honor is Elliott’s second in a row as a member of the Fire, just weeks after earning his first for his goal-scoring performance in a clean sheet win over CF Montréal on Matchday 26. His appearance on the Team of the Matchday marks the first time a Fire player has appeared in two consecutive lists since Hugo Cuypers featured in Matchdays 2 and 3 earlier this season. This also marks the first time a Fire player appeared in multiple Teams of the Matchday in a row as a starter since 2021, when midfielder Álvaro Medrán was named to the Starting XI for Matchdays 10 through 12,” the club added.

Joining Elliott on this week’s Team of the Matchday are forwards Mikael Uhre (Philadelphia Union), Alonso Martínez (New York City FC), Ramiro Enrique (Orlando City SC), and Kelvin Yeboah (Minnesota United). The midfield features Martín Ojeda (Orlando City SC), Owen Wolff (Austin FC), and J.C. Ngando (Vancouver Whitecaps FC). Defenders Manu Duah (San Diego FC) and Mathías Laborda (Vancouver Whitecaps FC) round out the back line, while Pedro Gallese (Orlando City SC) was selected as goalkeeper. Orlando’s Oscar Pareja was named Coach of the Matchday.

The bench featured Pablo Sisniega (San Diego FC), Benjamin Cremaschi (Inter Miami CF), Cristhian Paredes (Portland Timbers), Braian Ojeda (Real Salt Lake), Maxi Moralez (New York City FC), Alexey Miranchuk (Atlanta United), Osman Bukari (Austin FC), Iván Angulo (Orlando City SC), and Logan Farrington (FC Dallas).

Chicago Fire FC will take a short break before returning to the pitch on Saturday, August 9, when they host Los Angeles FC at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Illinois. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT. The match will be available worldwide on MLS Season Pass via Apple TV, with local English commentary on wlsam.com and Spanish coverage via Que Buena Fire on the Uforia App.
