Chicago Hounds Extend Captain Lucas Rumball’s Contract

The Chicago Hounds have extended the contract of team captain Lucas Rumball for one more year, the club announced Thursday.

Rumball, a two-time All-MLR selection and 2025 Second-Team honoree, joined the Hounds ahead of the 2024 season after spending five years with the Toronto Arrows. He also serves as captain of the Canadian national rugby team.

Since arriving in Chicago, Rumball has started in 20 of 28 matches and set new personal bests during the 2025 season—his first as captain—with 16 appearances and 15 starts. He recorded 152 carries for 336 meters, beat 22 defenders, and posted double-digit tackles in nine of his 16 games. His standout effort included 25 tackles in the Eastern Conference Final.

This past season, Rumball became the first player in Major League Rugby history to surpass 1,000 career tackles. He has totaled 1,074 tackles on 1,175 attempts, maintaining a 91% success rate, and has made 26 dominant tackles. Known for his work at the breakdown, he secured ten turnovers in 2025 and more than sixty over his MLR career.

Overall, Rumball has earned 82 caps, including 71 starts and nearly 7,500 minutes on the pitch. He has scored seven tries for 35 points across 578 carries covering more than 2,000 meters, beating 86 defenders and producing two clean line breaks in his most recent campaign.

Rumball’s standout 2021 season earned him First-Team All-MLR honors after compiling a career-best 228 tackles on 247 attempts—good for a 92% success rate.
