Illinois 53 Resurfacing Starts July 28

Resurfacing work on Illinois 53 in Joliet is scheduled to begin July 28, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.
The project will affect Broadway and Ruby streets from Bluff Street to Teale Woods Trail, south of Illinois 7, also known as Theodore Street. Weather permitting, crews will carry out the work with intermittent daytime lane closures in place.
The Illinois Department of Transportation said the work is part of a $1.4 million improvement project that includes roadway resurfacing and patching, along with pedestrian-accessibility upgrades.
“The $1.4 million project, which also includes constructing new ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps, is expected to be completed in November. Access to residences and businesses within the work zone will be maintained throughout construction.”
The lane closures are expected to be limited to daytime periods, while local access will remain available for residents and businesses inside the construction zone.
The project is part of ongoing roadway maintenance and infrastructure improvement work in the Joliet area. IDOT said the improvements are intended to support safer travel conditions and better accessibility along the corridor.
ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps have become a regular component of roadway upgrades as transportation agencies continue aligning projects with federal accessibility requirements.
The work is expected to continue through November, though the schedule may change depending on weather or other construction-related conditions.
