A million species could extinct due to mankind

The United Nations have revealed a report which shows that humans are impacting the land, sea and the sky.

The report says that about a million animal and plant species are threatened with extinction.

Nature all over the world is declining due to human actions. The main reason for the declining nature is the need for energy and food.

The report says that these trends can be stopped but it will take transformative change in every aspect of human life.

The report also says that humans are exploiting the ecosystem that support their societies.

Some examples include bees that pollinate the crops or the forests that contain the flood waters.

The report has been compiled by the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES). This includes about 15,000 reference materials and is about 1,800 pages in length.

A 40-page summary has been published today named ‘summary for policymakers’ at a meeting in Paris. This summary reveals how nature has been affected by humans.

It shows that Earth has always suffered at the hands of humans but in the last 50 years, those scars are deeper than ever.

Since 1970, the world’s population has doubled, economy has risen 4 times, and international trade has grown 10 times.

Forests have been cut down to provide food, clothes and energy but the tropical areas have suffered the most.

1000 million hectares of tropical forest have been lost from the world between 1980 and 2000.

Human activities have not only affected the lands, wetlands have also been deeply affected by them.

Only 13% of the wetlands remain in 2000 that existed in 1700.

Urban areas have doubled since 1982.

25 % of the animals and plants are threatened according to the global assessment.

The human activities indirectly affect themselves by exploiting nature.
