Representative Monica Bristow is going to host a Senior Fraud Prevention Seminar on January 6. The seminar will be hosted at the Bethalto Senior Center. The office of the Illinois Attorney General is her partner in the organization of this event. Bristow is organizing this seminar in order to help the senior citizens to protect themselves and their hard-earned money.
The reports of scams and fraud targeting senior citizens are quite common. Bristow is making an effort to help the seniors in this regard. She said, “We sadly see more and more reports of scams and frauds targeting seniors where victims are often hurt financially or cheated into paying money when they are already living on a fixed income.”
Bristow said that it was important for them to make efforts in protecting seniors from such scams. She added, “Recognizing these scams and fraudulent business practices can help seniors protect themselves from becoming a victim.” Bristow will host the seminar on January 6. The location of the seminar is the Bethalto Senior Center at 100 E. Central Street, Bethalto.
A representative from the office of the Illinois Attorney General will also be present in the event. The representative will guide the seniors about the most common and newest scams. He will also tell them the ways to protect themselves in such situations. It will be a free event and the people of all ages are invited to attend the seminar. The main focus of the event will be on seniors. The event will help the citizens to know the ways to protect themselves and their hard-earned money.
The scammers are using new techniques to target seniors due to the increase in the use of technology. Bristow said that the seminar would allow the seniors to learn up-to-date knowledge and skills to identify the scammers at the right time. Bristow said, “With the expanded use of technology, criminals are coming up with more ways to cheat or scam people out of their money.”
