Butterfly Garden at the Santori Public Library of Aurora’s garden: A Scout’s Project

Matthew Bernardi is involved in scouting from his early days of life. He is a senior at Metea Valley High School in Aurora. He was two years old when he got involved with scouting. His struggle is for making the earth a better place to live. He helps everyone in order to achieve his target of making our community better.

Bernardi decided to add a butterfly garden to the Parker Garden at the Santori Public Library. The garden is designed for those who suffered from memory loss and it is open for public. Bernardi said that he found the project beneficial that is why he chose it as his culminating Eagle Scout project. He added that the project would last longer with less maintenance.

Bernardi said, “When I heard of the opportunity to recreate memories for Alzheimer patients I was all in.” He said that the library and the community would appreciate the project. The project has been chosen by him after clear planning and thought. He started working on the project in the first week of June. He took the help of his project coach by organizing several meetings with him for making sure the requirements and criteria of the Eagle Scout project were met.

His project involves the research on the butterflies and the flowers which they love. He visited Geneva and Growing Place for the determination of the best and suitable flowers. Bernardi prepared the proposal of the project and presented it to the Scout’s council for getting final approval. He bought the necessary plants and utensils for the completing of his project.

Bernardi took the help of 12 adults and Troop 101’s Scouts for the successful completion of his project. His project was completed on August 17 but still, he has to do a lot of work. He will make the list of expenditures on the project. He will report the hours of work on the project as well. He will attend an Eagle Scout conference before being awarded as an Eagle Scout.
