Chicago Fire Face New England in Season Finale

The Chicago Fire FC will wrap up their 2025 Major League Soccer regular season with an away match against the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, on October 18. Having clinched a playoff berth with a 5-3 win over Inter Miami CF on September 30, the Fire most recently played to a 2-2 draw with Toronto FC at Soldier Field on October 4.

Center back Jack Elliott had a standout performance in that match, scoring his first two goals for the club, both assisted by Philip Zinckernagel. Zinckernagel’s playmaking earned him new club records for assists (15) and total goal contributions (29) in a single season. Currently sitting eighth in the Eastern Conference, the Fire could climb higher in the standings with a victory. Finishing seventh or better would secure participation in a Best-of-Three opening playoff series against a higher seed, with the chance to host a postseason match.

The New England Revolution, meanwhile, have been eliminated from playoff contention following a 4-1 loss to Inter Miami CF in their previous outing. New signing Dor Turgeman has made an immediate impact, scoring twice in his first two MLS appearances. At the same time, Lionel Messi recorded three assists to help Miami notch its 17th win of the season.

This will be the third meeting between Chicago and New England in 2025. Earlier in the year, the Fire defeated the Revolution 3-1 in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 and 3-2 in their first MLS encounter at SeatGeek Stadium. Chicago now leads the all-time series with 28 wins, 25 losses, and 21 draws in 74 matches, making New England their second-most frequent opponent after Columbus.

Among the Fire’s key players, Philip Zinckernagel continues to be one of MLS’s top performers. He is tied with Cincinnati’s Evander for the second-most goal contributions on the road (17) and is just one goal away from achieving the first 15-goal, 15-assist season in club history. He could also become the second Chicago player to reach 15 goals this season, joining Hugo Cuypers (17 goals).

Defender Andrew Gutman also stands on the verge of a milestone. If included in Saturday’s starting lineup, he would become only the fourth player in Fire history to start every match in a 34-game regular season. Gutman has already set career highs in minutes played, appearances, and assists.

Saturday’s matchup marks the 75th regular-season meeting between the two clubs. Chicago holds a narrow edge in total goals, 109 to 102, and the teams have also met in 15 postseason matches across eight series, each winning four.

The match will air globally on MLS Season Pass (Apple TV) and locally on WLS 890 AM (English) and Que Buena Fire via the Uforia App (Spanish).

With playoff positioning at stake, Chicago will look to finish the regular season strong and carry momentum into the postseason.
