Chicago Fire FC II Loses 5–2 to Atlanta in Home Finale

Chicago Fire FC II wrapped up its home slate for the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro regular season with a 5–2 defeat to Atlanta United 2 on Sunday at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Illinois. Despite the result, the match featured key milestones for several Fire II players, including another league-leading goal for Jason Shokalook and the first professional score for Robert Turdean.

Atlanta United 2 seized early control of the game when Patrick Weah converted a penalty in the 13th minute. Weah went on to assist Gabriel Wessah’s strike in the 32nd minute before adding another goal himself ten minutes later, pushing Atlanta’s lead to 3–0. Shokalook cut into the deficit with a penalty kick just before halftime, marking his 18th goal of the season and extending his lead atop the league scoring chart.

After the break, Atlanta regained momentum as Sal Mazzaferro found the net in the 63rd minute, followed by Arif Kovac’s late goal in the 85th. Chicago continued to fight back, and in stoppage time, Turdean tallied his first professional goal off an assist from Trip Fleming. Brody Williams made his club debut as a substitute in the 75th minute.

The match included yellow cards for Weah (Atlanta), Poreba (Chicago), Shokalook (Chicago), and Neri (Atlanta). Statistically, Chicago recorded 13 shots to Atlanta’s 12, with both sides committing 17 fouls apiece.

Officiating duties were led by referee Calin Radosav, assisted by Fernando Pina and Jared Kuehl, with Ryan Shanklin serving as fourth official.

Chicago Fire FC II will close out its regular season on the road against Columbus Crew 2 on Sunday, October 5, at Lower.com Field. Kickoff is set for noon Central Time, with live streaming available on MLS Season Pass via Apple TV.
