Chinese National in Chicago Accused of Working as Beijing Spy

A 27-year-old Chinese who studies in Chicago is accused of being a spy and cooperating with the Chinese government. If found guilty, he faces a prison sentence up to 10 years.

Ji Chaoqun stays in the USA with a student visa and allegedly recruit American scientists and engineers to collaborate with Beijing. He gathers information about Illinois Institute of Technology and also about 8 Chicago citizens.

The relationship between America and China are very complicated, countries blame each other for spying and influence the election process and continue a trade war.

Ji Chaoqun has been staying in the USA for 5 years. He was studying electrical engineering and spying, looking for information about foreign intelligence. He was interested in American citizens that were born abroad and migrated to the country. All 8 people were born in China and Taiwan and retired recently from a scientific field.

The man also tried to apply for the American Army. During the interviews, it was clarified that he had contacts with Chinese government. He provided the Chinese intelligence officer with biographical information about those 8 people he had been spying on.
