City of Joliet announces garbage collection and closures for New Year holiday season

The City of Joliet announced the garbage collection and closures dates during the week of December 30, 2019. The garbage and recycling services will be one day late for the residents of Joliet Wednesday through Friday during the week of December 30, 2019. The delay of one day is occurred due to the New Year’s Day holiday.

The change will not affect the customers who scheduled Monday and Tuesday service. The regular schedule of garbage collection will be resumed from January 6, 2020. The City of Joliet announced that the yard waste pickup had been suspended until spring 2020. According to the announcement, City Hall will also be closed on January 1, 2020, due to the New Year’s Day holiday.

The residents of Joliet will get free of charge parking in the downtown parking decks. There will be no enforcement of parking meters during these two holidays, according to the announcement. The City of Joliet also released the guidelines for the Christmas tree pickup. The Christmas tree pickup service will run until January 31, 2020. The service will start after the holidays.

The residents are advised to follow the guidelines issued for the Christmas tree pickup service. The guidelines include the trees should be set out in one piece if under five feet in length, the residents need to cut the tree in half if it is longer than five feet, and the residents should set the tree at their usual pickup sites on their regular pickup days.
