Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra launches Stories Behind the Music campaign

It is a challenging thing to stay connected in times of separation. However, Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra (EYSO) has remained a medium of connection for hundreds of young people since 1976. EYSO makes a sense of community and takes people together in a single place. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, EYSO suspended in-person rehearsals in March.

After the suspension, they launched a campaign, Zoomhearsals, to operate distance learning in the time of need. The members of the EYSO participated in rehearsals through video conferencing by using Zoom. Folklorico, a season finale concert, was organized online on May 10, 2020. The event organizers, participants, and management worked hard to make it happen. The concert can be watched at eyso.org/concert.

The organization has announced now that they would conduct a new campaign, Stories Behind the Music, through the month of May. Eric Larson, the executive director of the EYSO, said, “Stories Behind the Music allows people to join the EYSO family by sharing their story, or donating, or both.” It is hard for the art organization to raise funds without managing public gatherings.

The EYSO is proving that it was hard, but not impossible. People who are closer to the EYSO know the intrinsic value of the organization. Many of them consider it a “hidden gem”. The new campaign will allow people to know why the organization has so much importance for hundreds of families for the past 40 years.

The EYSO officials said that they were committed to raising at least $30000 through this campaign. The organization has the aim of educating young people through music. You can experience the stories shared by the students, staff, alumni, and others. After reading these stories, you can post your own. It will help you to learn the importance of the organization and its impacts on the life of hundreds of young people and their families.
