It is reported that more than a thousand flights have been cancelled which has disturbed the scheduled of people. The flights had been cancelled on Sunday at the Chicago airports.
The O’Hare International Airport had been the most affected airport by the weather. On Sunday, around 6 p.m., an estimated thousand flights had been cancelled by the aviation authorities.
There was an average delay of 44 minutes in all those flights.
The Chicago Department of Aviation says that Midway had around 156 flights cancelled due to the weather. The average delay time was less than the O’Hare International Airport. The delay for Midway was on average 20 minutes.
By Monday, things had gotten better for both airports. The flight cancellations for the O’Hare International Airport was 189 flights whereas the flight cancellations for Midway was 5 flights.
There are still many people in trouble as they are stranded due to overnight stay.
The flights were not cancelled due to any technical difficulties but due to the weather conditions. There was a mixture of rain and wet snow that persisted in the area through most of the day.
They tapered off in late afternoon and early evening hours. Due to the weather conditions, it was not safe enough to carry out the flight operations.
There is good news for this week as forecasters have predicted that the temperature will rise in the week. This will make sure that the snow melts and the runways are clear.
