Freeport Police has a new chief

Freeport Police Department in Freeport, Illinois has a new Police Chief and his name is Matthew Summers. City Manager Lowell Crow has announced the new appointment. Summers is a veteran police officer having 24-years of experience in his CV as he worked in patrol, investigations, community policing and administration.

Summers earned his B.S. and M.S degrees from Western Illinois University in Law Enforcement and Justice Administration. In 2014, he graduated from the Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command from Northwestern University.

Summers is a September 2019 graduate of the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. He became part of this prestigious 10-week program that only 1% of all law enforcement officers can avail. Summers is also a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police and the FBI Academy Associates.

Summer’s extensive education and background make him the right person for this job, according to crow manager crow. The deputy Chief position goes to Lt. Travis Davis. Davis is in the police department since 2001. Travis is a veteran of the US Army Reserve –Military Police and a graduate of Western Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science, Majoring in Law Enforcement and Justice Administration.

He also graduated from the Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command in 2016. Both Matthew Summers and Lt. Travis Davis will be sworn on Tuesday, November 12, 2019, at the Committee of the Whole meeting at City Hall which starts at 6:00 PM.
