Illinois takes in $39.2 million in adult-use cannabis sales in January

The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation made an announcement related to the adult-use cannabis sales that took place in Illinois during the first month of legalization. According to the news release put out by the department, Illinois took in $39.2 million in adult-use cannabis sales in January.

According to the announcement, more than $30 million came in from the residents of Illinois while $8.6 million came in from visitors. The out of state purchasers contributed to 22% of the sales in January. The news release stated, “Dispensaries across the state sold 972045 items over the 31-day period.” The Marijuana Moment tweeted, “Nearly $40 million of Marijuana sold During Illinois’s First Month of Legal Sales.”

The successful launch of the legal cannabis sales in Illinois opened the gates of the new opportunities for the entrepreneurs. The experts said that the failed war on drugs harmed the communities in Illinois. The whole community has a new opportunity to contribute to the legal business and take profits through this industry. Toi Hutchinson, a senior advisor to Gov. Pritzker for cannabis control, said, “The successful launch of the Illinois cannabis industry represents a new opportunity for entrepreneurs.”

Hutchinson said that the Pritzker administration would support the people entering into the cannabis industry. The administration is focused to provide equal opportunities to all Illinoisans. According to the announcement, $3.2 million came in on New Year’s Day alone. The administration is hopeful that more than the state will make $480 million in the first year of legal cannabis sales.

The Illinois Department of Agriculture is offering cannabis infuser, craft grower, and transporter licenses to the Illinoisans. The official website of the Agriculture department includes all information related to the licensing opportunities. The experts are expecting a great future of the weed industry in Illinois.
