Lakeshore East towers topped off

Chicago building permit fillings report Lendlease and Magellan Development Group have topped off two towers on Lakeshore East. The towers have an overall $300 million construction value. The two projects are Cirrus and Cascade. Cirrus is a 47-story, 350-unit condominium tower at 211 N. Harbor Dr., and Cascade is a 37-story, 503-unit apartment tower at 455 E. Waterside Dr.

The developers say the projects represent one of the final phases of the Lakeshore East master plan in downtown Chicago. In February 2020, a Chicago building permit was issued. The permit indicates that the Cirrus building has a permit value of $150 million. Key subcontracting services were provided by Titan Electric LLC, All Masonry Construction Co. Inc., Norman Mechanical, and Advance Mechanical.

A permit was also issued on Oct. 30, 2019. The permit reveals the 455 E. Waterside structure has a similar $150 million permit value, with the same subtrades. The developers say in the summer of 2021, the adjacent Cascade Park will be publically accessible. Bkl designed the buildings. The two buildings are part of three towers planned for the site, where Lake Michigan meets the Chicago River.

Ted Weldon, executive general manager of development for Lendlease’s Chicago office said, “The virtually uninterrupted progress we’ve made on Cirrus and Cascade over the past year reflects the commitment we have made to downtown Chicago, and we are thankful for the hard work and diligence of every individual who helped achieve this milestone.”

Claude Cormier + Associés designed the 0.8-acre green space, Cascade Park. The park will include passive wellness features, pathways, outdoor living rooms for recreational use, terrace seating, and a dog run. The developer said the park is privately developed and maintained, however, it will help serve the surrounding community.
