Man goes to court to find suspect that hit him with a scooter

A man hit by a wrong-way electric scooter rider in Wicker Park is going to court to find the suspect that hit him. He is turning to Cook County Circuit court in pursuit of the scooter rider. Allyson Medeiros is a tattoo artist who was hit by the scooter suffered various injuries.

He has launched a fundraising page to help with the medical costs. He received 20 stitches and was treated for “a dangerous amount of air in his chest cavity,” a broken nose, a broken jaw and other injuries from the crash. His lawyer, Bryant Greening has given details of the incident in a statement.

He says that Medeiros was biking room from work about 5:30 p.m. on June 20. As he was going home, he was struck by an electric scooter rider traveling on the wrong side of the road in the 1200 block of North Leavitt Street. The rider that hit him didn’t stopped and left the scene. Medeiros had filed a lawsuit on Monday to find the culprit.

He filed the lawsuit in circuit court to force all the 10 Chicago e-scooter companies to give data related to people riding scooters at the time of the crash. According to the statement, Medeiros will use the information from the companies to prosecute “the negligent company and rider.” His lawyer also said, “The responsible parties must be held accountable, including covering the costs of the medical bills, lost wages and pain.”

Greening also said that his client has had multiple surgeries and owes thousands of dollars in medical care. The city rules state that scooter companies are obligated to keep location data and notify and cooperate with Chicago police when criminal activity involves their scooters. 2500 electric scooters were introduced to the city streets as part of a pilot program on June 15.
