Steve Chirico, the mayor of Naperville, has signed an executive order that extends all liquor licenses. According to the officials, the liquor licenses have been extended to expire on April 30, 2020. Naperville has already declared a local state of emergency on March 17. It is the first executive order signed by the mayor under the local state of emergency.
According to the executive order, the liquor licenses have been extended to expire on April 20, 2020. The executive order has also suspended the liquor license renewal process and late fees associated with it.
According to the mayor’s office, the order will stay in effect until the determination of the date by the mayor. Mayor Chirico has also been serving as the Liquor Commission of Naperville. Chirico said that he did not want to put an extra burden on the residents of Naperville especially due to the current situation of the City.
Chirico said, “In these uncertain times, this executive order allows our liquor license holders peace of mind.” He added, “The executive order removes a timely hurdle that would be unnecessarily burdensome to both our license holding businesses and city staff.” It was hard for the hospitality and restaurant industries to follow the deadlines.
The declaration of the local state of emergency gives the mayor the authority to issue executive orders to deal with emerging issues due to the emergency situation in the city. Mayor Chirico said to the community that they needed to fight with the virus together to overcome it. He added that they would keep the community updated through the official website.
