NHTSA spreads message that ‘Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving’ on Halloween

Halloween is celebrated by millions of children and adults every year. It is a holiday which is celebrated in the form of spooky parties and sweet treats. Drunk driving is dangerous for everyone and we just have to remind this on the special occasion of Halloween. More people come on the roads for the search of candy on Halloween that enhances the dangers of drunk driving.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of the US Department of Transportation spread the message that Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving. The NHSTA will team up with the Joliet Police Department for reminding the dangers of drunk driving to the public. It is never safe to drink and drive and we have to remind it before planning a night that involves alcohol.

The NHTSA advises the people to plan for a sober ride home this Halloween. Chief Al Roechner said, “This year, Halloween falls on a Thursday, so we are certain to see extra parties throughout the weekend.” He advised the public to plan for a sober ride home in advance. It is a selfish choice to drink and drive. A single drink can impair judgment and put the lives of yourself and others at risk.

The NHTSA released some statistics about the drunk-driving fatalities. It said that 42% of people were drunk-driving when they killed in a motor vehicle accident from 2013 to 2017. 158 drunk people lost their lives on Halloween night from 2013 to 2017 in motor vehicle crashes. It is illegal to consume alcohol if you are under 21. Unfortunately, 45% of the drunk-drivers who lost their lives on Halloween night in 2017 were under 21.

Roechner said, “We want our community to have a fun night out on Halloween, but to also stay safe and make responsible choices.” Thousands of people die every year in the US due to drunk-driving. 10,874 people lost their lives in drunk-driving crashes in 2017. Drug-impaired driving is another issue of the US which is killing people on the roads. Plan a sober ride home this Halloween!
