Parents of ‘AJ’ Return to Court

Joan Cunningham who is 36 and Andrew Freund Sr. who is 60 are charged with murder for the death of Andrew AJ Freund.

The Crystal Lake parents blamed of murdering their son Andrew who was 5 years old. They are expected to return to court on Monday for multi hearings.

The parents’ grave crime cases are punished for a 9 a.m. court appearance where a judge will decide a preliminary hearing date. At 10 a.m. a juvenile abuse and neglect case is also planned.

Last week, an Illinois judge decided the bail at $5 million each for Joann Cunningham (36) and Andrew Freund Sr. (60) after a prosecutor said Judge Mark Gerhardt that Andrew was beaten and obtruded into a cold shower before he died.

Authorities found a body on Wednesday later the body was confirmed that it was Andrew’s, who was reported as missing a week earlier. The McHenry County Coroner’s office on Thursday identified that the body belonged to the missing boy Andrew and said that the cause of death was craniocerebral trauma as a result of various blunt force injuries.

Cunningham was charged with five counts of first degree murder, four counts of aggravated murder, two counts of aggravated domestic battery and one count of failure of reporting missing or child death.

Freund Sr. was charged with five counts of first degree murder, four counts of aggravated murder, two counts pf aggravated domestic battery and one count of failure of reporting missing or child death as well. In addition to those, he was also charged with two counts of concealment of homicidal death.

Andrew’s parents said police that they saw the child after leaving him to bed around 9.30 p.m. on April 17.

On the next morning, Freund Sr. called the police in order to report his son’s missing and telling they checked everywhere around. However, investigators quickly eliminated the possibility of kidnapping.

The police told investigators that they spoke both parents with cell phone data evidence.

Both parents were seen in McHenry County Circuit Court last week for a hearing in relation to their other son who was sent from the family home after Andrew’s disappearance. That hearing was continued to Monday.
