Patrick Kane Returns to Blackhawks on $16M Deal
Three-time Stanley Cup champion Patrick Kane is returning to the Chicago Blackhawks after agreeing to a two-year, $16 million contract with the team on Thursday.
The 37-year-old forward previously spent 16 seasons in Chicago before the Blackhawks traded him to the New York Rangers in February 2023. Kane played the following three seasons with the Detroit Red Wings.
“Day in and day out for 16 seasons, Patrick captivated the city of Chicago with his dazzling skill, creating some of the most memorable moments in Blackhawks history as he helped bring our storied franchise back to the pinnacle of our sport,” Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson said.
“He’s shown on countless occasions that he knows what it takes to win at the highest levels, and we couldn’t be prouder for Patrick to once again call the United Center home and continue to shine in Chicago’s brightest lights.”
Chicago selected Kane with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2007 NHL Draft. He has recorded 1,400 points, including 508 goals and 892 assists, over 1,369 regular-season games.
Kane ranks second in Blackhawks history with 779 assists and 1,225 points. He is third in franchise history with 446 goals and 1,161 games played.
He won the Calder Trophy as the NHL’s top rookie following the 2007-08 season. During the 2015-16 campaign, Kane also received the Hart Memorial Trophy, Art Ross Trophy and Ted Lindsay Award.
Kane finished the 2025-26 season with 57 points, scoring 16 goals and adding 41 assists in 67 games for Detroit.
The nine-time NHL All-Star is the league’s all-time points leader among American-born players. Kane and Alex Ovechkin are also the only players to record at least 40 points in each of the past 19 seasons.
Kane helped Chicago win the Stanley Cup in 2010, 2013 and 2015. He has registered 138 points, including 53 goals and 85 assists, in 143 career playoff games.
He also won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the NHL postseason’s most valuable player in 2013.
