Pilsen homes and businesses approached by ICE agents: Alderman’s office

ICE agents have approached the homes and businesses in Pilsen, according to the office of alderman Rossana Rodriguez-Sanchez. 25th Ward Alderman Byron Sigcho-Lopez has also confirmed the arrival of ICE agents in Pilsen neighborhood.

Alderman Sigcho-Lopez said in a tweet, “Our Office has received reports that ICE is approaching businesses and homes in Pilsen today. We have confirmed these reports with the National Immigrant Justice Center.” Alderman of 33rd Ward, Rossana Rodriguez-Sanchez also confirmed the presence of ICE agents in Pilsen on Thursday. No arrests have been made by the agents on Thursday, according to the Alderman’s office.

Chicago neighborhoods are at high alert towards the ICE raids after the announcement of President Donald Trump that ICE would hit the major cities of the US. The Illinois Coalition for Immigrants and Refugees told five steps to the immigrants who would target by the ICE. Their site says not to open the doors and call emergency numbers. It also says that the immigrants need to record the video while being raided by ICE agents.

The immigrants also need to demand the warrant from ICE agents, according to the website. If the agents try to enter the house forcefully then the immigrants need to note their names, agent number, and the number of their vehicle, the website says. Immigrants do not need to sign any document and they are recommended to stay silent, according to the advice on the website.

The immigrants are also advised to secure the important documents and get prepare for any emergency. ICIRR has shared the family support hotline number with the immigrants as (855) 435-7693. The presence of ICE agents in the Pilsen neighborhood has been confirmed by the alderman’s office. No arrests have been made so far, according to the statement.
