Safety Checkpoints conducted in September by Joliet Police

The Joliet Police Department, in collaboration with the Illinois Department of Transportation, will take part in statewide efforts to promote seatbelt usage and to reduce the number of impaired drivers in September. This news was announced by Joliet Police Chief Al Roechner.

Special enforcement efforts will be carried out from Sept. 10 to Sept. 30. In these special enforcement efforts, alcohol/seat belt saturation patrols, seat belt enforcement zones along with roadside safety checkpoints throughout the city will be implemented.

Alcohol violations, occupant and child restraint violations, cell phone usage violations, and other violations of the Illinois Vehicle Code will be checked by the officers assigned for the special enforcement efforts.

Chief Al Roechner says that their goal is to save lives using the enforcement; “Our primary goal will be to increase enforcement throughout the City of Joliet; this overall enforcement will save lives.”

The police are encouraging drivers and passengers to wear seat belts while driving/ riding. They are also advised not to use any electronic communication device while driving. Drink driving is against the law but many DUI cases come forward every day.

Illinois Department of Transportation plays an important role in maintaining public safety as these campaigns are only possible due to the grants provided by them.
