Stephenson County court sentences Marcum with life in prison

Devin Marcum, a Freeport man, was sentenced with life in prison in a courtroom of Stephenson County during the sentencing hearing. Marcum was facing the charges of fatally shooting Kyle Tucker and Shaun Bradbury. Michael Steinhauser was shot wounded by Marcum, according to the court documents. Marcum was found guilty in the court on August 23, 2019.

According to the court document, Marcum was facing charges of first-degree murder, attempted murder, possession of a weapon by a felon, aggravated battery with a firearm, and aggravated discharge of a firearm. He claimed in the court that he opened the fire in self-defense. He told the court that he was trying to save one of his sisters.

Marcum claimed that one of his sisters was a victim of cyberbullying and she received several threats. The gun violence incident took place outside a bar in Cedarville. He claimed that his and his family’s life was in danger that night outside the bar. According to the witnesses, Marcum was fighting with a man, 35-year-old Steinhauser, outside the bar. They told the court that Marcum drew a gun during the quarrel.

The witnesses also testified that another man, 35-year-old Tucker, tried to get Marcum to put down the gun. Marcum opened the fire when Tucker tried to intervein for controlling the situation. He was found guilty in the court on all charges filed against him. He has been sentenced with life in prison in the courtroom of Stephenson County.

According to the case documents, Marcum was found guilty on the following charges: –

  • Three counts of first-degree murder
  • Two counts of strong probability to commit murder or injury
  • One count of attempted murder
  • One count of aggravated battery, discharge of a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm in a building, and possession of a firearm by a felon.
