Tesla recalls Cybertrucks over wheel defect

Tesla has announced two separate recalls, including a limited number of Cybertrucks affected by a wheel-related issue and more than 200,000 additional vehicles impacted by a rearview camera software defect.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Cybertruck recall impacts 173 model year 2024 through 2026 vehicles equipped with 18-inch steel wheels.

Federal regulators said cracking in the brake rotor could cause the wheel stud to separate from the wheel hub, potentially increasing the risk of a crash or injury. The agency noted that rough road conditions and cornering may place stress on the wheel rotor, leading to cracks around the stud hole over time.

If the damage progresses, the wheel stud could detach from the hub and affect vehicle control.

Tesla said it will replace the front and rear brake rotors, wheel hubs, and lug nuts with more durable components at no cost to owners. The recall is listed under number SB-26-33-003. Owners can contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752 for additional information.

In a separate recall, Tesla announced that more than 200,000 Model Y, Model S, Model X, and Model 3 vehicles are affected by a software issue involving the rearview camera system.

The company said the defect can cause the rearview camera image to temporarily disappear, reducing visibility while reversing and increasing the possibility of a collision.

That recall has been assigned the number SB-26-00-016.

Tesla stated that it is not aware of any accidents, injuries, or fatalities connected to either issue.

The recalls add to ongoing scrutiny surrounding vehicle safety and software reliability in the rapidly growing electric vehicle industry, where manufacturers increasingly rely on digital systems alongside traditional mechanical components.
