Inspector general of Chicago police has released a report in which he revealed that the police department of the city failed to follow the orders of inspection camera which officers wear. Officers wear the body camera during their duty to make sure they are working correctly.
The lieutenants did not review one recording daily between November 2017 and March 2018, the report said. The lieutenants failed to follow the federal decree, according to the report. Anthony Guglielmi, the spokesman of Chicago police, said, “We have taken the steps in compliance with the policy.” The policy of Chicago’s police department states that the commanders are needed to be assessed on their compliance every two weeks.
The body-worn cameras show that the department is keen to regain public trust. The officers of the Chicago police are ordered to activate these cameras while interacting with the public. A federal consent decree and own policy of the police department order the police officers to wear the body cameras while performing the duty.
Guglielmi said that the police department have made continuous efforts to ensure the assessment of the commanders. The report clearly said that the police department did not follow the body camera policy during November 2017 and March 2018. The report is based on a review which revealed that the watch operations lieutenants did not review one recording daily across all of the shifts.
The police officers have the orders to activate the body-worn camera while interacting with the public during their duty. They also need to review one recording daily across all shifts. The body-worn camera policy complies with the efforts of the department to regain public trust. Chicago police have faced the allegations of misuse of authorities in the past.
