Chicagoans come on street in huge number for Women’s March 2020

The Women’s March 2020 was organized on Saturday in Chicago. Thousands of people came to the streets for joining the march. The organizers of the march said that 180 marches took place in the US and it was one of them. It was a drizzly rainy day and the temperature was hovering near the freezing mark.

The marchers formed a line blocks long in a procession that went from Grant Park and the Art Institute into the Loop and Federal Plaza. The speakers gave enthusiastic speeches during the march. The main focus of this year’s march was on five key issues including the 2020 US Census, gun violence, climate change, health care, and getting out of the vote. According to the organizers, the march was also dedicated to the disabled women of the US.

The journey of the Women’s March started three years ago when Donald Trump, the president of the US, took his office. Lori Lightfoot, the mayor of Chicago, said, “The series of marches reflect a wave of women seizing political power.” Lightfoot considered her victory last year in that wave. She added, “I particularly want to make sure that we are doing everything we can to say women matter, girls matter, and their voices and important.”

The spokeswoman of the Planned Parenthood Illinois Action, Brigid Leahy, said, “In the last few years, sexual and reproductive health care has been under attack like never before.” She also pointed out that abortion rights were under threat. Toni Preckwinkle, the president of Cook County, said, “I think this march is a good beginning.”

Juliana Stratton, the Lieutenant governor, appreciated the inclusion of disabled ladies in this year’s march. Stratton said that the voice of every person mattered and we needed to include everyone in that march. According to the organizers, more than 180 protests happened across the US in which thousands of people participated. The political leaders attended the protests and raised their voices on the key issues of the US.
