Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico May Kill More Than 1400 People

Puerto Rico government updated the official information about the number of people killed by Hurricane Maria. Instead of originally thought 64 victims officials confirmed 1400 deaths.

The number of deaths caused by the storm was confirmed by the special commission from George Washington University that had made the investigation. Governmental team counted only those people who died because of the flooding and landslides. In fact, hundreds of victims were killed by the indirect consequences of the storm.
The reconstruction process of Puerto Rico will cost $139 billion for Americans, the infrastructure was damaged and should be rebuilt.

The main reason for numerous deaths was that old people cut off from the hospitals could not get the necessary treatment. The cut-off electricity and damaged roads hampered work of ambulances and emergency services. People died during the several next weeks from heart attacks, suicide, and respiratory failures, their deaths were caused by devastating Hurricane Maria. George Washington University report takes into account all these facts.
