Indian student denies taking gold metal against Citizenship Act

The protests against the controversial Citizenship Act have been increasing with the passage of every single day. A female student of Pondicherry University denied taking a gold medal in protest against the new citizenship law. Rabeeha Abdurehim got the first position in the mass communication department of the university.

She was named for the gold medal upon her excellent performance in her degree career. Ram Nath Kovind, the president of India, was invited to attend the convocation of the university on December 23. He was invited to give the gold medals to the toppers of each department of the university. Abdurehim, a Muslim student of the university, denied taking the gold medal.

According to the report of Arab TV, Abdurehim told the media that the security officials asked her to leave the auditorium after the arrival of Kovind. She said that she was not enforced to leave the hall. She added that she was aware of the behavior of the security officials. She also said that the reason behind it might be her participation in a protest against the Citizenship Law.

She further said that it was the contempt of every single person of India who was struggling against the bill. The student was allowed to enter the hall when Kovind left. She attended the event and received her certificate but she denied to take the gold medal. She said that she denied the gold medal and she did not need a gold medal to tell her what she needed to do.

She said that it was her protest and solidarity with the people who were protesting against the law. Indian President Kovind tweeted about his visit to the Pondicherry University but he did not discuss the matter in his tweet. According to the media reports, 25 people have lost their lives in the protests against the citizenship law. The protests are still ongoing in various parts of India. Adburehim said that the behavior of security officials was contempt for those people who were against the law.
