Rep. Manley encourages local families to participate in census

State Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, is encouraging local families to participate in census as they are spending more time at their homes due to the stay-at-home orders. The governor of the City of Joliet ordered the residents to stay at their homes due to the coronavirus pandemic. Manley urged the residents to participate in census while staying at home.

Manley said, “Participating in the census is a great activity to do while we continue to practice social distancing.” The residents can easily fill their forms at home by mail, phone, or internet. The future of the community is dependent on the accuracy of the census data. The fair share of funding is provided by the government on the base of the census data.

Manley said, “While we are facing so much uncertainty at this time, making sure you and your family are counted is one way to help secure our community’s future.” Manley is urging the families to participate in the census so that they would get fair funding for the local schools, roads, healthcare, and other services. The 2020 census campaign was initiated in March in which the letters were sent to every household via mail, phone, or online.

If someone has not registered yet then he/she can visit the official website of the 2020 Census at https://2020census.gov/. It is a critical thing to ensure the counting of yourself and your family for your better future. The impacts of the census data can be felt in the next decade. Manley continued, “The census data will make sure we get our fair share of funding for programs our families care about.”

Manley said that the census data played a crucial in protecting their representation in Congress. She added, “If you have not already done so, please take some time while you are home to participate in the census.”
