Study finds gay wedding boosted US economy by $3.8 billion since 2015

The Williams Institute conducted a study at UCLA School of Law on the same-sex wedding. The study found that gay weddings had boosted the local and national economy of the United States of America by an estimated $3.8 billion since 2015. The study further stated that those weddings generated at least $244.1 million in sales tax revenue since the legalization of gay marriage.

The study conducted by the Williams Institute found that the gay marriages supported at least 45000 jobs for one full year. There are an estimated 513000 same-sex couples in the US as of March. The study stated that at least 293000 couples got married since the approval of gay marriage issued by the US Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court legalized gay marriage in the Obergefell vs. Hodges case on June 26, 2015. The researchers found that same-sex couples spent less on their weddings as compared to cross-sex couples. However, the trend of spending more money by same-sex couples on their marriages is developing, the study found.

The researchers said, “The spending difference is decreasing with time.” The study further found that same-sex couples dissolved their relationships slightly less than the different-sex couples. Gay marriage is getting huge support in the US. The study came at the right time as it will boost the morale of the gays to get married without any hesitation.

According to a Gallup survey released on Monday, 67% of US citizens want the recognition of gay marriages as valid. The decision of the US Supreme Court related to gay marriages boosted the number of same-sex marriages. Gay marriages are generating huge money for the local and national economy. Moreover, they are also creating job opportunities for US citizens. The Gallup survey found a rise in gay marriage support across the country. This study will surely motivate more people to support these marriages.
