Assad regime violated the ban on chemical weapons by using chlorine, US says

Donald Trump authorized a strike over Syria in 2018 as it used poison gas. The use of chemical weapons was banned since then and it is the first proven violation of the ban by the Bashar al-Assad regime in May. Mike Pompeo, the US Secretary of State, said, “The Assad regime is responsible for innumerable atrocities some of which rise to the level of war crimes.”

Pompeo said that the Assad regime was responsible for the crimes against humanity. He said that it had been confirmed that the Assad regime used chlorine as a weapon on May 19. The United States received several reports about the use of chlorine by the Syrian government forces. The US received the report of the use of chemical weapons by the Syrian forces during an attack on Idlib province.

The Trump administration has taken actions in the form of strikes over Syria due to the use of chemical weapons by Syrian forces. The US bombed Syria twice in 2017 and 2018 over suspected use of the chemical weapons by the Assad’s regime. Three suspected Syrian chemical weapons were targeted by the US, the UK, and France in the airstrikes in April 2018.

Pompeo said that Trump was quite spirited for protecting the world from the use of chemical weapons. He added, “This is different in some sense because it was chlorine.” Two Russian entities were involved in the fuel supply to the Syrian government and the US imposed sanctions on these two entities. The US officials said that Russia was supporting Assad in the Syrian war.

The use of chemical weapons is a danger for the whole world and the US administration is keen to take actions against the chemical weapons. A suspected gas attack in a Damascus suburb killed several people. Pompeo declined to talk about the US response towards the current violation of the ban on the use of chemical weapons. He said that Trump was keen to protect the world from chemical weapons.
