Carnival Returns to Moultrie-Douglas County Fair in 2025

The excitement is building in central Illinois as the Moultrie-Douglas County Fair Board
confirms the return of a full-scale carnival for this summer’s 94th annual fair, taking place July
25 through August 2, 2025. Organizers decided to adjust the fair’s calendar to secure a
partnership with Swyear Amusements, Inc., a family-owned carnival company based in Athens,
Illinois. The fair board expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, noting the ride provider’s
strong reputation and commitment to safety. The carnival will feature 16 rides, entertaining all
age groups. It officially opens on Monday, July 28 with a special ticket promotion night.

Wristband nights are scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, allowing unlimited
rides. Single ticket options will be available on Friday and Saturday evenings. Guests can also
look forward to traditional carnival games and concessions, including favorites like elephant ears
and funnel cakes. Founded in 1958 by Ray Swyear and his wife, Swyear Amusements is now
operated by their children—Terry, Alex, Roger, and Teresa—along with their families. The
business marks its 67th season in 2025, continuing the legacy of safe, family-focused
entertainment. The Swyear family emphasizes safety as their top priority. “We not only want our
patrons to have a great time but also a safe and memorable experience while on our midway,”
they said in a statement. Fair officials say this year’s event promises to be one of the best yet.

“We’ll catch you on the big Ferris wheel,” they added, “or maybe try one of the many other
rides. It’s going to be a great fair.”
