The Martin County sergeant and a driver teamed up to rescue a 21-year-old Florida woman, Rosie Ramirez, from a burning car. Ramirez is recovering in the hospital as she suffered from serious injuries during the incident. Her foot was badly injured and doctors are trying to save her foot, according to Ramirez’s family.
The loved ones of Ramirez thanked the sergeant and driver who rescued Ramirez from her burning car. The car of Ramirez was crashed into a tree on Monday near Dixie Highway, the investigators said. Tony Weisman was driving his vehicle when he saw a crashed car. Weisman said, “It was like the whole front of the car was on fire.”
A woman was standing on the scene and she was trying to call 911. That woman told Weisman that someone was trapped inside the burning car. Sgt. Timothy Baltes also reached the scene. Baltes and Weisman decided to pull her out of trouble together. Baltes said, “I saw, I looked at him and I said let’s go get her.” Weisman joined Baltes without any hesitation.
Ramirez was not able to open the door. Blates and Weisman decided to pry the door open. When they opened the door, Ramirez fell out of the car. Weisman said, “I grabbed her by the arms and the officer grabbed her from the legs.” They carried her at least 20 yards away from the burning car. Ramirez was in a lot of pain. Baltes said that they comforted her until the arrival of medical aid. Baltes said, “Two is always better than one. It was good to have that guy with me.”
Baltes admired the efforts of Weisman as everyone does not have guts to jump into a situation like this. They provided the aid to Ramirez at the right time. Baltes said, “It was probably about 20 or 30 seconds before it exploded upfront and started catching in the cabin.” Ramirez has already gone through three surgeries. Her fourth surgery is scheduled on Saturday in which the doctors will operate her broken foot bones.
