Chicago Steel to highlight Bain Family of Batavia

GENEVA, ILLINOIS — The Chicago Steel announced Wednesday that the team has chosen to highlight the Bain Family of Batavia for the USHL’s Billet Family of the Year award. The award, in its third year after being introduced following the 2019-2020 season by the United States Hockey League, recognizes one host family from each of its member clubs.

Holli, Scott, Logan and Coulson Bain were chosen to represent the 20 families that housed full-time Steel players during the 2021-22 season.  Billet families play a vital role to the success of the team, with families providing room and board for players who range in age from 16 to 20 and come from all over the United States and internationally.

“The Bains are a shining example of the generosity and kindness exhibited by the families who open their homes to Steel players,” said Steel President Dan Lehv.  “We’re grateful to Holli, Scott, Logan and Coulson who have built lasting relationships with the players they have housed and have been an integral part of the Steel family since our move to the Fox Valley area in 2015.”

During the season, the Bains housed three full-time Steel players: Lukas Gustafsson (Alpharetta, GA), Gibson Homer (Grand Rapids, MI) and Jake Livanavage (Gilbert, AZ).

The Bain family’s first season as billets was the 2015-2016 season when the Steel relocated to Fox Valley Ice Arena.  This April, the Bains celebrated the NHL debut of Nick Abruzzese, whom they housed during the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 seasons.

The Chicago Steel is currently looking for housing families for the 2022-2023 season.  Housing families receive a monthly stipend, tickets to all home games for each member of the household, and additional benefits.  Interested families should contact Steel Housing Coordinator Erin Keohane at briananderinkeohane@yahoo.com.

Chicago Steel hockey returns to Fox Valley Ice Arena this fall with season ticket plans starting at five games for just $50.
